Lockdowns
Many professionals around the world objected to the draconian "lockdowns" implemented in 2020 and 2021.
They feared these measures would cause more harm than good.
They were right.
COVID Plan B
In April 2020 a group of academics devised a "Plan B" for New Zealand. The plan said to end lockdowns and shift to a risk-based management plan, similar to the Government's alert level two.
Auckland University senior lecturer of epidemiology Dr Simon Thornley told Newstalk ZB the risk is generally low for working age and young people.
"We don't think the lockdown is justified, we think we can safely head back to work and school."
Great Barrington Declaration
The Great Barrington Declaration was initiated by infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists. They had grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the COVID-19 policies being enacted around the world. They recommended an approach they called Focused Protection.
They held that lockdown policies were producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health.
Our society took the decision not to put children first

COVID-related hunger could kill more people than the virus
"COVID-19 has killed hundreds of thousands over the past few months. But as the health crisis becomes an economic one, funding shortfalls and supply chain issues could see millions more die of hunger."
The data shows lockdowns end more lives than they save
"The best gauge of the pandemic’s impact is what statisticians call excess mortality, which compares the overall number of deaths with the total in previous years. That measure rose among older Americans because of COVID-19, but it rose at an even sharper rate among people aged 15 to 54, and most of those excess deaths weren’t attributed to the virus."
